First Nations Access Coordinator (Term half time)

Job description and duties

Coast Mountain College (CMTN), Terrace campus, invites applications for a term First Nations Access Coordinator. The appointment will commence November 25, 2024, and end April 30, 2026.  Regular scheduled weekly hours of 17.50 Monday – Friday afternoons with flexibility required to accommodate evening events/activities as they occur. Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Support Staff Level 11 ($35.32 per hour).

Reporting to Indigenous Relations, this position will:

  • Provide support, information, and assistance to Indigenous students; assist students with funding, orientation, and transition to college programs
  • Support the culturally inclusive environment at CMTN and create and organize cultural activities on campus
  • Liaise with schools, local Indigenous organizations and communities, high schools, and at inter-agency meetings
  • Participate in general student recruitment and support services
  • Other related duties of similar scope and complexity as assigned

Qualifications

Successful completion of a post-secondary degree program is required. A combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required skills, abilities, and knowledge includes:

  • In-depth understanding of the history, cultural values, traditions, and protocols of Northwest Coast Indigenous peoples
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with First Nations Cultural activities relevant to the six First Nations in our service region
  • Knowledge and understanding of the barriers Indigenous students face in accessing and succeeding in post-secondary education
  • Knowledge and enthusiasm for the best practices in equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Demonstrated ability to support others in achieving a common goal demonstrating well developed conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of various funding opportunities for Indigenous students
  • The ability to serve as an appropriate role model for students
