A prerequisite is a requirement that must be met before you take a course, while a co-requisite is a course that must be taken at the same time. Some requirements may be taken as either a prerequisite or co-requisite.
The applicable prerequisites and co-requisites for each course are listed on our course pages. If you do not have the required prerequisites to enrol in a course contact an educational advisor to discuss your options.
Select programs accept mature students (applicants over the age of 19) in lieu of high school graduation. Individual course requirements (e.g., English 12) still need to be met for program entry. Programs where accrediting bodies explicitly require high school graduation are exempt. Refer the program page for specific requirements.
Entrance requirement alternatives
In order to provide access to programs, the following provides alternatives to meeting BC high school entrance requirements at Coast Mountain College.
Assessments can be booked after you submit an application. For provincial upgrading options, please refer to the Provincial Articulation Handbook [PDF]. The alternative course grade must meet the grades required for the program. These alternatives reflect the minimum equivalencies; higher-level courses in the same subject may be considered to meet entrance requirements.
