Accessibility Services

• Eligibility

  Students with permanent disabilities can apply for accommodations and services. This includes:

  • Chronic health disabilities
  • Hearing disabilities
  • Physical disabilities
  • Mental health disabilities
  • Neurological disabilities (ADD/ADHD, autism and learning disabilities)
  • Visual impairments

  Students experiencing temporary disabilities will also be assessed for supports. Appropriate documentation must be provided to determine eligibility for support, accommodations, grants and applications to external service providers.

• Documentation

  Requirements of medical documentation of a disability may vary depending on service and accommodations being requested.  Please speak with Accessibility Services for information about what is required. 

  CMTN does not provide or assume the cost of acquiring documentation.

• Orientation and pre-registration assistance

  Individualized orientation sessions and pre-registration assistance are available for students with disabilities.

• Exam and classroom accommodations

  Students may qualify for exam accommodations such as extra time, separate setting, use of a computer, use of adaptive technology, readers and/ scribes. 

  Classroom accommodations may include:

  • Registered sign language interpreters
  • Note takers
  • Preferred seating
  • FM systems
  • Use of adaptive technology

• Physical accessibility

  Coast Mountain College offers physical accessible campus locations. Our Accessibility Services Coordinators can provide you with information and support prior to your arrival or throughout your studies.

• Financial assistance

  Funding for adaptive technology and specialized services may be available for students with disabilities through Student Aid BC special programs grants and bursaries. Accessibility Services can provide assistance with applications.

• Ongoing support

  CMTN faculty, staff, and members of the Student Services team monitor student performance and may offer assistance to those who seem to be struggling, missing classes or progressing more slowly than expected.

  Support checks are meant to provide students with the best possible chance of success in their studies. CMTN can provide students with support and referrals for personal barriers experienced while attending.
