Coast Mountain College (CMTN) invites applications for a non-regular position as the Mental Health First Aid Instructor in Workforce Training and Contract Services department. This appointment will commence as soon as possible and end August 31, 2025 on an on-call basis, as required. Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Instructor salary scale, ranging from $37.55 to $53.81 per hour.

The Mental Health First Aid Instructor is responsible for instructing CEFAID 863 - Mental Health First Aid Basic is a 12-hour course focused on adults interacting with adults in all environments.  The course discusses the following mental health disorders: Substance related disorders: mood related disorders, anxiety and trauma related disorders, and psychotic disorders.  Crisis first aid skills for the following situations are learned: substance overdose, suicidal behaviour, panic attack, acute stress reaction and psychotic episode.

Training maybe available based on criteria defined by Mental Health Commission of Canada.

Qualifications

: A bachelor degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Counselling along with two years of experience as a clinical counsellor.   Preferences include a diploma in Instructional Design and post-secondary teaching experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required skills, abilities, and knowledge includes:

  • Strong knowledge of the concepts of Trauma Informed Practice with a person-centered and trauma informed perspective
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching with the ability to motivate and mentor learners of all ages
  • Knowledge and enthusiasm for the best practices in equity, diversity, and inclusion in the classroom
  • Ability to function effectively across cultures, particularly with the Indigenous communities, is an asset
  • Excellent group facilitation, interpersonal, and communication (written and oral) skills
  • Canadian Psychological Association membership is an asset
