Job description and duties

Coast Mountain College (CMTN), Smithers campus, invites applications for a continuing 28-hour per week Student Engagement Officer commencing as soon as possible. Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Support Staff Salary Scale, Level 8: $1,818.88 biweekly plus a comprehensive benefits plan.

Duties: The Student Engagement Officer will enhance the student experience at CMTN through delivery of events, programs, activities, and health and wellness initiatives. Tasks will include but are not limited to the following: 

  • Deliver aspects of student enrichment program that offers a wide range of informal wellness, social and recreational activities that reflect the college culture and values and support learning in a multi-cultural context
  • Liaise with internal departments and external agencies regarding possible events and ideas
  • Develop and maintain external relationships to support engagement with the various programs and activities
  • Collaborate with departments to create and deliver orientation sessions
  • Ensure prospective and current students across the region receive invigilating/proctoring services for various types of exams, tests, and assessments for CMTN
  • Work with International Student Advisor to align international student arrivals to the region with welcome and orientation to the area (may include providing guided tours and airport pickup during regular hours)
  • All other tasks of similar scope and complexity as required

Qualifications

An associate degree or diploma in a related field (i.e.: Social Work, Education, Business, Hospitality) along with a minimum of 2 years of work experience in an educational or youth program setting. Additional requirements include a valid unrestricted Class 5 Driver’s License (with a current driver’s abstract), First Aid Level 1, and Food Safe certificate.

Required skills, abilities, and knowledge includes:

  • Proficiency with computer applications such as Office 365, Outlook, Excel, CRM, Colleague; able to log in and set up internet access to web-based exams, Accuplacer, Examity, or Sage and troubleshoot minor issues
  • Excellent customer services skills in a cross-cultural setting
  • Engaging, adaptable, and enthusiastic with good oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability and knowledge of exam invigilation process and procedures including knowledge of accommodations and access exams
  • Meticulous attention to detail with the effective time-management skills demonstrating the ability to manage multiple demands with varying deadlines
  • Self-directed and proficient in preparing and setting up Accessibility equipment or computers for accommodated exams
