Workforce Training Instructor(s) - Safety Training

Job description and duties

CMTN acknowledges the six unceded traditional territories its campuses reside on: Haida, Tsimshian (Ts'msyen), Nisga'a, Haisla, Gitxsan, Wet'suwet'en nations.

Coast Mountain College (CMTN) invites applications for non-regular Instructor(s) to teach Safety Training courses throughout the college region. Evening/weekend work as well as some travel may be required.  The appointments will commence as soon as possible and end August 31, 2024 on an on-call basis, as required. Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Instructor scale.

Duties: Facilitate learning for adult students in the workforce training safety related courses. This includes course preparation, teaching and guiding students, providing feedback, correction, encouragement, and direction to ensure students successfully achieve the related industry certificates. Courses include:


  • Confined Space Hazard Awareness
  • Fall Protection
  • Rigging Safety
  • WHMIS

Qualifications

Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include current industry certification(s) for the course(s) listed above that you are applying to teach, along with strong technical knowledge and relevant industry work experience. Additional instructor certificate training in these courses may be provided by CMTN but successful completion will be required prior to the commencement of teaching appointments. Preference will be given to candidates teaching experience and/or a Provincial Instructor Diploma.

Required skills, abilities and knowledge includes:

  • Excellent group facilitation, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to foster a motivational learning environment for a diverse student base
  • Customer/Client service oriented
  • Adaptable with the ability to work effectively within a variety of diverse situations
  • Experience teaching with distributed learning formats as well as knowledge with relevant technologies
