Welding Instructor - Friday Trades School (Terrace)

Job description and duties

Coast Mountain College (CMTN), Terrace campus, invites applications for a non-regular Welding Instructor (one day per week) for the Friday Trades School program as outlined below (subject to minimum enrolment). Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Instructor salary scale (range: $37.55 - $53.80 per hour plus pay in lieu of vacation and benefits).

This position would be ideal for retired/semi-retired Welder or a Welder who is looking for part-time work to supplement their income and would like to share their knowledge and skills.

Duties:  Facilitate learning for students (high school aged) in an introductory welding program (through in-class and practical skills) and is responsible for ensuring student success. This includes course preparation, teaching and guiding students, providing feedback, correction, encouragement, and direction. In addition, the instructor will oversee and ensure shop safety, complete the related administrative, record keeping and monitoring activities as well as other related duties as required.

Qualifications

A Grade 12 diploma or equivalent and substantial experience in a trade setting with an emphasis on safety procedures. Preferences include Journeyperson certification, a Provincial Instructor Diploma or other relevant teaching certification, and teaching experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Ability to function effectively across cultures, particularly with the local Indigenous communities
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and accurately in a collaborative team environment
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and facilitation skills
