Maintenance Helper

Job description and duties

Coast Mountain College (CMTN), Terrace Campus, invites applications for a term Maintenance Helper. This position will commence as soon as possible and end December 19, 2024. A flexible schedule is required as some evening and weekend work may be necessary as well as some travel. Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Support Staff Scale, Level 6: $29.27 per hour.

Duties:   Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to various buildings and assist trades staff (i.e.: Electrician, Carpenter, Gardener, etc.) in performing trade level work.

Tasks will include but are not limited to:

  • Receive instructions and work with trades people as a helper to repair, paint, maintain, or renovate campus buildings and offices
  • Operate truck and pick up, load, and move furniture, file cabinets, and equipment around campus or to other locations, and to pick up materials and supplies and transport to work sites
  • Perform grounds maintenance and snow removal as required
  • Other related duties (of similar scope and complexity) as assigned

Qualifications

A minimum of grade 12 education or equivalent; a valid Driver’s license (a current driver’s abstract is required); and a Forklift Operator certificate. Pre-apprenticeship or equivalent is preferred.

Additional abilities include:

  • Maintenance and carpentry skills and experience
  • Strong and physically fit with the ability to ability to lift and transport heavy / bulky items
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work safely both as a team member as well as independently
