Instructor - Adult Basic Education (Skidegate)

Job description and duties

Coast Mountain College (CMTN), Skidegate, invites applications for a term Instructor to teach Adult Basic Education (ABE) courses (Math and English). This appointment will commence September 3, 2024 and end December 13, 2024 (subject to enrolment and funding) as outlined below.  Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Instructor salary scale, ranging from $37.55 to $55.31 per hour.

Duties:  The Instructor will be responsible to facilitate learning for students, ensuring successful completion of the courses identified below. This includes course preparation, teaching and guiding students as well as completing the related administrative, record keeping and monitoring activities. Courses will be delivered Monday to Thursday, from 10:00am to 12:00pm and 1:00pm to 3:00pm for 120 instructional hours per course.

  • Math 030 and English 040: September 3 to December 13, 2024
  • Math 11 and English 12: January 6 to April 25, 2025

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in a directly related discipline
  • A Provincial Teaching Certificate or a Provincial Instructor's Diploma
  • A Master’s Degree in a related discipline or in Adult Education is preferred
  • Teaching experience in an Adult Basic Education / Career and College Prep program (preference will be given to those with experience teaching Advanced/Provincial levels) is preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching with the ability to motivate and mentor learners of all ages
  • Knowledge and enthusiasm for the best practices in equity, diversity, and inclusion in the classroom
  • Ability to function effectively across cultures, particularly with the Indigenous communities, is an asset
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered

The successful applicant will possess a broad range of content knowledge, confidence and experience in the subject areas. As a team player and learner-centered instructor, experience should demonstrate excellent group facilitation, communication and interpersonal skills.
