Job description and duties

Coast Mountain College (CMTN) invites applications for a Instructors to teach Career & College Preparation (CCP) courses (outlined below). The appointments will commence September 3, 2024 and end April 25, 2025 (subject to minimum enrolment).  Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Instructor salary scale (range: $36.46 - $53.70 per hour).

Duties:  The Instructor will be responsible to facilitate learning for students, ensuring successful completion of courses. This includes course preparation, teaching and guiding students as well as completing the related administrative, record keeping and monitoring activities. Courses will be delivered online and include:

  • ML Math (Intermediate, Advanced and Provincial Level): Mon and Wed, 6:00pm – 8:00pm, 60 instructional hours per semester delivered online
  • SEL-CPST: Wednesday, 3:00pm – 4:00pm, 15 hours instructional per semester delivered face-to-face at the Prince Rupert campus
  • SEL-CPST: Wednesday, 3:00pm – 4:00pm, 15 hours instructional per semester, delivered face-to-face at the Smithers campus

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in a directly related discipline
  • A Provincial Teaching Certificate or a Provincial Instructor's Diploma
  • A Master’s Degree in a related discipline or in Adult Education is preferred
  • Teaching experience in an Adult Learning environment
  • Experience teaching using experiential place-based pedagogy
  • Experience teaching in a distributed learning format
  • Demonstrated dedication to excellence in teaching with the ability to inspire and mentor students
  • Knowledge of and enthusiasm for the best practices in equity, diversity, and inclusion in the classroom
  • Ability to function effectively across cultures, particularly with the Indigenous communities
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered

The successful applicant will possess a broad range of content knowledge, confidence and expertise in the subject areas. Experience should demonstrate exceptional group facilitation, communication and interpersonal skills as a team member and learner-centered educator.
