Northwest BC and Victoria, BC – Coast Mountain College (CMTN) is pleased to announce an updated transfer agreement between CMTN and the University of Victoria (UVic), offering guaranteed admission and course transfer to UVic in select programs. Eligible and qualified students who complete their Associate Degree of Arts or Science at CMTN, can transfer directly into Humanities, Science, Social Science, or Art History and Visual Studies. Students who complete their first year of Engineering at CMTN can transfer directly into Engineering or Software Engineering at UVic.
To be eligible for this transfer, students must take 24 credits of courses at CMTN and achieve a minimum GPA of 2.0 (calculated on the most recent 24 credits) in order to enter the Faculties of Humanities, Science, Social Science, and Department of Art History and Visual Studies at UVic. Students wanting to pursue Engineering or Software Engineering at UVic must successfully complete all the required courses and achieve a minimum GPA of 2.33 at CMTN.
“This updated transfer agreement between Coast Mountain College and University of Victoria ensures that students who want to pursue Bachelor’s degrees can stay close to home for their first and second years and benefit from our experiential place-based learning, small class sizes, and affordable tuition costs, while also giving them more time to prepare for life in a new city,” says Dr. Titi Kunkel, Vice President Academic, Students, and International.
This agreement is open to both domestic and international students at any CMTN campus.
“UVic is a proud partner in BC’s transfer system and provides transfer opportunities for students throughout the province, including from Coast Mountain College. Every year we see excellent students transfer from Coast Mountain College to our Victoria campus to complete their programs. Combined with our internationally recognized co-operative education program, UVic students benefit from our comprehensive range of research-enriched academic programs, complemented by direct and related work experience while they study,” says Elizabeth Adjin-Tettey, Associate Vice-President Academic Programs.
Student Jackson Hamel completed his first year of Engineering at CMTN in 2022 and is now in his third year of Mechanical Engineering at UVic. Jackson shares his experience on why he chose this pathway:
“What’s most important to me in my education is real-world and hands-on experience. CMTN was able to provide a great deal of this as we went on numerous field trips and had many guest speakers who provided insight into the practical side of engineering. While at UVic, I’ve been able to do co-op work placements, where I get the opportunity to dive into an engineering role and gain valuable work experience while still fairly new in the field.”
“[The transfer agreement between UVic and CMTN] is a great opportunity for students in the Pacific Northwest because you can gain unique first-year experience while having the comfort of knowing that you have been guaranteed admission to UVic in your following year,” he says.
Guaranteed admission and partner transfer opportunities may be offered in other program areas in future years.
