Coast Mountain College (CMTN) invites applications for a term Instructor for the Camp Cook Prep course. This appointment will commence June 22, 2026 and end July 10, 2026. Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Instructor salary scale ($37.55 - $53.80 per hour).

Duties: The Instructor will teach the Camp Cook Prep program and is responsible for ensuring student success. This includes course preparation, teaching and guiding students, providing feedback, correction, encouragement, and direction. In addition, the Instructor will oversee and ensure shop/kitchen safety, complete the related administrative, record keeping and monitoring activities, as well as other related duties as required. Total hours of appointment for this position will be 90 hours.

Key components of the role may include, but are not limited to:

  • Instruct students on foundational kitchen safety practices and procedures relevant to a camp cook setting
  • Teach proper knife skills and the safe operation of kitchen equipment
  • Guide students in the preparation and delivery of breakfast, lunch, and dinner service in support of experienced cooks
  • Prepare and deliver lesson plans aligned to the program's learning outcomes and competency requirements
  • Evaluate and provide feedback on student progress, maintaining accurate records of attendance and performance
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all participants
  • Complete related administrative and record keeping duties as required

Qualifications

Qualification/Skills: An Inter-provincial Red Seal Certificate and Food Safe along with five years hospitality industry experience as a chef. Preferred certificates and experience include a Provincial Instructional Diploma (PID).

Required skills, abilities and knowledge include:

  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s license
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm and commitment to excellence in teaching with the ability to inspire and mentor learners of all ages
  • Knowledge and passion for the best practices in equity, diversity, and inclusion in the classroom
  • Effective cross-cultural communication skills, particularly with the local Indigenous communities
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and accurately in a collaborative team environment
  • Excellent organizational, communication and facilitation skills
