Job description and duties

Coast Mountain College (CMTN), Hazelton campus, invites applications for a Part-time Indigenous Language Instructor as outlined below (subject to minimum enrolment for the 2026 Fall semester. Salary will be in accordance with the CUPE Instructor Scale: (range: $5,775.84 - $9,255.50 per section).

Duties: College Professors are responsible for contributing to the academic success of students. This includes course preparation, teaching and guiding students, providing feedback, correction, encouragement, and direction in the following face-to-face course:

Fall Semester (August 18, 2026 to December 19, 2026)

  • GITK 101: Introduction to Gitksanimx Language Conversation I (1 section)

Qualifications

Qualifications: A minimum of both a Master’s degree and a Bachelor’s degree in First Nations Studies along with proficiency in Gitxsan language (confirmed by Gitxsan language authority or language speaking Elders if no language authority in place). A combination of language certification and/or teaching experience teaching Gitxsan language may be considered.  Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate experience with experiential teaching formats.

Required attributes/experience includes:

  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching with the ability to inspire and mentor learners
  • Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous communities and/or strong ties with Indigenous communities
  • Knowledge and enthusiasm for the best practices in equity, diversity, and inclusion in the classroom
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and facilitation skills
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
