Coast Mountain College (CMTN), Smithers campus, invites applications for College Professor(s) in the Social Services Worker (SSW) Program. This appointment will start on August 18, 2025, and end June 13, 2026. Salary will be in accordance with the CUPE Instructor Scale (range: $5,775.84 to $9,255.50 per section).

Duties: The Professor will be responsible for contributing to the academic success of students. This includes course preparation, teaching and guiding students, providing feedback, correction, encouragement, and direction in the following courses:

  • SSW 112- Interpersonal Communication
  • SSW 113- Helping Skills
  • SSW 191- Introduction to Social Services Agencies
  • SSW 192- Introduction to Social Services Practice
  • SSW 197- Social Services Worker Practicum I

Note: Applicants must indicate which course(s) they are interested in teaching.

Qualifications

A master’s degree in social work or a bachelor’s degree in social work with a Master’s in a related field. A minimum of three years of experience in social work practice is preferred.  Expertise teaching social service work in a post-secondary environment and membership in the British Columbia Association of Social Workers and Registration with the BC College of Social Workers are preferred.

  • Understanding and expertise in the instruction of social service
  • Working knowledge and sensitivity of Indigenous culture and history in the northwest
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching with the ability to inspire and mentor learners of all ages
  • Knowledge and enthusiasm for the best practices in equity, diversity, and inclusion in the classroom
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and facilitation skills
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
