About our Smithers campus

Smithers-Campus

Smithers campus is connected to place. Connected to the rich cultures of the area, the rugged landscapes and breathtaking vistas.

The Gold LEED building, flooded with natural light and heated with Geothermal energy features wood, rock and Indigenous art throughout. This serves to represent three themes—forestry, resource management and Indigenous culture. The themes symbolize Coast Mountain College’s connection and commitment to the communities of the Northwest.

The building houses a large gathering area and bright learning facilities. With advanced technology with video conferencing and distance education capabilities we offer a variety of instructor-led and online courses. There are classroom spaces, wet and dry science labs, a multi-purpose shop for trades programs, a library and bookstore, a computer lab and one flexible-use lab.

Coast Mountain College offers a variety of full-time programming in Smithers that includes University courses, diploma and certificate options to study business and  social and human sciences. Flexible career and college preparation courses support your goals to upgrade or obtain your adult dogwood.  Short-term continuing studies, online and workforce-ready certificates are offered too.
Through local partnerships with school districts and industry we offer trades training at our Smithers campus through our regular timetabled programming and on a contract basis.

History

On October 16, 2009, the Hon. Moira Stilwell, BC Minister of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development and Irene Seguin, previous Coast Mountain College Chair, broke ground to begin the Smithers Campus renewal and expansion project. The $16.7-million project was one of 40 Knowledge Infrastructure Program (KIP) projects at post-secondary institutions across the province, jointly funded by the provincial and the federal governments.
