Equity and Accessibility in the Workplace Series

The Equity and Accessibility in the Workplace Series is designed to equip participants with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment. This series includes three comprehensive, 6-hour courses that address key areas of workplace diversity, inclusion and accessibility. By engaging in these courses, participants will learn how to recognize and overcome barriers to equity, promote inclusive practices, and implement strategies for creating a more accessible workplace.

Unconscious Bias

There are two categories of bias in studies today: conscious or explicit biases and unconscious or implicit biases.  Unconscious bias is usually thought of as social stereotypes that typically focus on others that are not from the same
conscious area.  Here are some quick facts about unconscious bias:

  • Unconscious bias is more common than the conscious or explicit bias.
  • Unconscious bias may not concur with the conscious bias of an individual.
  • Unconscious bias may be triggered by an event or situation.
