Copper Etching

Etching copper can be an enjoyable, creative and low toxic process.  Using common household materials and a specialized method, participants will create or transfer designs to copper and learn to control a speedy etching process.  This process requires a minimal studio set-up using only salt water and electricity.  It is applicable for metal smithing and print making. 

The course will include: basic theory and safety, etching bath and electrical set-up, copper surface preparation, image transfer and resist options, creativity meets science application with a variety of effects. each student will practice copper preparation for design creation/transfer using low toxic resists, and will have an opportunity to create a few pieces of etched copper exploring a variety of effects.
