Job description and duties

Coast Mountain College (CMTN), Terrace campus, invites applications for a full-time term Employee Services Assistant. This appointment will commence as soon as possible and end October 31, 2026 (subject to a leave). This is a great opportunity for someone who is looking to break into or gain further experience in human resources. If you are able to handle high volumes of work, have solid organization skills and can juggle multiple priorities and tasks this opportunity is for you. Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Support Staff Scale, Level 9: $2,361.10 biweekly plus a comprehensive benefits plan.

Responsibilities: The Employee Services Assistant will perform administrative functions supporting the employee journey at CMTN. They will enhance the employee experience by responding to inquiries or concerns received via telephone, or email ensuring timely customer service.  

An illustrative sample of tasks include:

  • Prepare postings, receive applications, field enquiries from candidates, distribute application packages to selection committees, providing advice and assistance to committees as required
  • Process employee leave plan accruals and tracking employee leave plan usage
  • Receive, code, and submit expense claims for payment
  • Provides support for special projects and events
  • Other related duties of similar scope and complexity as required

Qualifications

A diploma in Business Administration or Human Resources along with a minimum of two years related experience in Human Resources, preferably in a unionized environment. A CPHR designation is an asset. An equivalent combination of education and office experience may be considered. 

Required knowledge, skills and abilities include:

  • Demonstrated proficiency using standard office technology (experience with Colleague is an asset)
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex information to diverse audiences
  • Able to maintain a high level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information
  • Demonstrated ability to handle HR administration tasks efficiently and effectively, by collaborating and working independently as needed
  • Proven capability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and meeting tight deadlines without compromising quality
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with a keen attention to detail in all aspects of work
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a proactive approach to addressing challenges and finding innovative solutions.
