The Golden Triangle of Northwest BC is renowned for its gold, silver and copper deposits. The region has a long history of mining, and present-day resource demand combined with climate change making glacier-covered terrain more accessible, has led to a modern-day gold rush.
This field school focuses on the decision-making processes involved in natural resource development and environmental protection in The Golden Triangle. Learners will apply the policy process to objectively assess the challenges and opportunities of The Golden Triangle. Topics will include environmental policy, Indigenous protected areas, mining regulations in BC, climate change and glacier recession, northern rural communities, and Transboundary watersheds.
Four days of learning in Terrace will be followed by a four-day intensive field school excursion to Stewart, BC.
