Description

This award is made possible by the generous contributions of journalist and writer Bruce Byfield and his wife Patricia L. Williams. Williams passed in the summer of 2010; the award is offered in her memory.

There are 2 x $500 and 1 x $1,000 awards for mature students (25 or older) from the Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art who have demonstrated leadership and mentoring qualities in the classroom. Faculty from the School of Northwest Coast Art will select a student after confirmation of enrolment in the second semester of the First Nations Fine Arts Certificate or Diploma program.

Criteria

To be eligible a student must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or refugee, and BC resident;
  • Be 25 years of age or older and enrolled in the First Nations Fine Arts program (Certificate or Diploma);
  • Identify and work with a mentor to facilitate ongoing learning;
  • Demonstrate potential in visual arts in the Northwest Coast style;
  • Display mentoring and leadership qualities in their relationships with other students in the program both inside and outside of class.
