Coast Mountain College (CMTN) invites applications for an Instructor(s) for the Cook’s Helper Program as outlined below. Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Instructor salary scale ($37.55 - $53.80 per hour).

Duties: The instructor will facilitate learning in the theoretical techniques and skills of the Cook’s Helper Program in a community setting with a mixed class of adult learners. This includes course preparation, teaching and guiding students, providing feedback, correction, encouragement, and direction. In addition, the instructor will oversee and ensure site safety, complete the related administrative, record keeping and monitoring activities as well as other related duties as required. The curriculum of this program is based on the National Occupational Standards for Line Cook and Kitchen Helper positions. (Note: Please indicate the preferred location):

  • July 7 to September 26, 2025: 420 Instruction hours, delivered in Old Masset Village Council
  • October 14, 2025, to January 23, 2026: 420 Instructional hours, delivered in Glen Vowell

Qualifications

An Inter-provincial Red Seal Certificate and Food Safe along with five years hospitality industry experience as a chef. Preferred certificates and experience include a Provincial Instructional Diploma (PID) and a minimum of three years post-secondary instructional experience teaching Professional Cook Level 1. Candidates local to the area (Prince Rupert) will be given preference.

Required skills, abilities and knowledge include:

  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s license
  • Criminal record Check Required
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm and commitment to excellence in teaching with the ability to inspire and mentor learners of all ages
  • Knowledge and passion for the best practices in equity, diversity, and inclusion in the classroom
  • Effective cross-cultural communication skills, particularly with the local Indigenous communities
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and accurately in a collaborative team environment
  • Excellent organizational, communication and facilitation skills
  • Intermediate computer skills (word processing, excel, email)
