In honour of National Indigenous Peoples Day, we’re sharing the story of the Education is Unity totem pole on our Terrace campus. Raised in 2004, this pole represents the strength, unity, and shared commitment to education among the seven Indigenous nations of the Northwest Coast. This pole was the first ever raised on a CMTN campus.
CMTN was honoured to host Harol Frasser, a Bruncajc Knowledge Holder from Costa Rica, along with Brandon Villalobos, his interpreter, and Michael Calvert, Director of Indigenous Education for Northern Lights College for the first of six stops as they travel across Northern BC to share his people’s history, culture, and worldviews.
The Wetzin’kwa Community Forest Corporation is once again supporting the Smithers Coast Mountain College campus food bank and Breakfast Club through its grant program.
On Friday, September 26, Coast Mountain College’s Education Council unanimously passed a revised Learning and Inclusion Statement, which will appear on all official CMTN course outlines beginning with the Winter 2026 semester.
The CMTN Foundation and Coast Mountain College are pleased to announce the first seven recipients of the Northern Learner Entrance Award. This is a new incentive for top high school graduates to pursue their first year of post-secondary education locally.
