Job description and duties

Coast Mountain College (CMTN), Terrace campus, invites applications for a full-time continuing Carpenter, Facilities Services position commencing June 15, 2026. Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Support Staff, Level 13: $2,747.50 biweekly plus a comprehensive benefits plan.

Duties: The Facilities Services Carpenter performs carpentry and related building trades functions to maintain and renovate campus buildings and assets.

Key components of the role may include, but are not limited to:

  • Receive, read/interpret, and build based off construction plans per current BC building codes; prepare design plans for new or repair work on smaller projects
  • Compile list of materials needed for required projects and provide an accurate and complete quote to the Foreman, Facilities Management, or Associate Vice President Corporate Services for review; research and procure required materials
  • Gather materials, equipment, resources, and supplies to carry out projects
  • Perform carpentry trade functions to repair and maintain campus buildings, modify, renovate, or build office or related facilities, including furniture and joinery
  • Troubleshoot plumbing problems and perform minor plumbing installations; repair leaky pipes and fixtures, clear plugged drains, sinks, toilets, etc
  • Test electrical breakers to check for power outages, change light bulbs, and make minor electrical repairs; perform basic boiler checks
  • When assigned, operate bobcat mounted blower, snow plow, and large front-end loader to remove snow and apply salt and sand to campus roadways, parking lots, fire lanes, sidewalks etc
  • Operate truck to pick up, load, and move furniture, file cabinets, and equipment around campus or to other locations; validate receipt of goods from vendors as ordered
  • Operate forklift to load and unload materials and move heavy objects; use and operate hand and stationary power tools; climb and work from ladders or perform overhead inside work
  • Assist with groundwork when requested; operate computer to prepare correspondence, reports, or memos; some weekend and night work are a requirement of this position

Qualifications

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Red Seal Certification in Carpentry required
  • Minimum of two (2) years of post-certification work experience in a facilities management or related environment
  • Proficient computer skills, including the ability to prepare correspondence, reports, and work orders
  • Experience in snow removal operations and equipment preferred; willingness to train will be considered for otherwise qualified candidates
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License with a driver's abstract that complies with the CMTN Vehicle Use Policy
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs; able to work from ladders and perform overhead work
  • Proven ability to prioritize and multi-task effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment
