Social Enterprise

A social enterprise refers to a business with certain social objectives as its primary goal while using a commercial structure to run the organization. Social enterprises usually attempt to make a strong societal impact while maximizing their profit as well, which is then used to fund their social programs.  In this course you will learn how and why to look as your Small Business as a Social Enterprise.

Upon completion of this module, the student will be able to:

  1. Identify Social Finance initiatives
  2. Describe Government of Canada involvement
  3. Explain the social finance accelerator initiative
  4. Identify the social development partnerships program’s priorities
  5. Explore examples of vulnerable populations’ partnerships (3rd party)
  6. Define social purpose organizations (SPOs), social innovation (SI), and social finance (SF) strategies
  7. Review Social Entrepreneurship
  8. Define and Example Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
  9. Identify social purpose ventures and measure social impact
  10. Explain how social enterprises respond to social problems
  11. Define the sharing economy and list ways that companies benefit from engaging with them
  12. Develop an understanding of Fairtrade and U.N. Sustainable Development Goals
  13. Define the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE)
  14. Identify diverse forms of social enterprises
  15. Self-discover if social enterprises are for you

    the lack of accessible, culturally relevant business education for Indigenous learners in BC. Community consultations identified a strong need for practical, Indigenous-led training to support entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and sustainable business development. The micro-credential consists of five CE courses, each offering 15 hours of instruction and applied learning.
