Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art student Smiddy Grandison explains what it’s like to celebrate the Nisga’a new year, Hobiyee. The Nisga’a People watch for the positioning of the moon and the stars during this time of year to predict the coming harvest.
Hobiyee 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of bringing back this cultural celebration. Smiddy’s home village of Gilaxt’aamiks was hosting the celebration this year making his performance with the Gilaxt’aamiks Cultural Dancers even more special.
