The Coast Mountain College (CMTN) Board of Governors announced today that it has selected Justin Kohlman, an experienced post-secondary leader, as Coast Mountain College’s new president.
“Justin is student-focused, and embodies the Coast Mountain College DNA – he understands the people and the region and he has been instrumental in helping the College get on successful footing during the past five years,” said CMTN Board of Governor Chairperson, Nicole Halbauer. “We are thrilled to announce that Justin is the successful applicant after conducting an in-depth hiring process for our new leader that included exceptional candidates from across Canada and around the world.”
Justin’s five-year appointment is effective immediately and follows a four-month search for a new president after the departure of former President, Ken Burt in September, 2019. Kohlman has been a part of CMTN’s leadership team since 2015.
“It is a privilege to be given this opportunity,” said Kohlman. “My selection is a reflection of the great work of everyone at our college over these last five years. We have achieved so much in such a short amount of time. I’m confident that in the coming years, we’ll be even more effective in meeting the needs of our students, communities and Indigenous partners.”
Kohlman has also been a member of boards and agencies at the national, provincial and community levels. Prior to joining Coast Mountain College, Kohlman held leadership positions in student services, academic and International education at British Columbia Institute of Technology, University of Victoria and Monash University in Australia.
Under Justin’s leadership, the college community will continue to work toward its strategic goal of becoming the college of choice for experiential, place-based learning in Canada.
