Terrace, BC – When Camille Kho moved to Terrace from her hometown of Zamboanga City in the Philippines, she had no idea that she would one day find work in her dream field.

Camille holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and an Associate Degree in Office Administration. However, after completing one year of a Master’s degree, she put it on hold when an opportunity presented itself to come to Canada. Camille recently completed a Post-Degree Diploma in Business Administration at Coast Mountain College (CMTN).

“I never get tired of learning,” says Camille. “I have many goals in life but my priority now is my mother and brother. Once they are settled, I will start working on the future of myself and my partner.”

At Coast Mountain College, Camille’s experience was filled with activities and learning about the world of business in Canada. She served as the student-elect representative on the Board of Governors, representing the student body in discussions about CMTN’s strategic plan and helping fulfill the Province of BC’s educational mandate.

After graduation, Camille worked at Foundry Terrace as an employment and education support worker. Although she greatly enjoying that, when an opportunity to work in her dream field came up, Camille couldn’t say no.

Camille now works as a Human Resources assistant for the northwest cluster of Northern Health. She assists the leadership team of Hazelton, Houston, Smithers, Dease Lake, and Terrace, handling everything from operational support and recruitment to making sure everyone’s training and development are up to date.

When asked what is the favourite part of her work, Camille responds, “Everything is my favourite. Being in Human Resources is my dream and now I am living that dream. HR is not just paperwork, I also get to travel to all the places that I handle when needed.

“What’s nice about Northern Health is that your opinions are heard, and [the leadership team] acknowledges you and listens to you. I think that’s important to have in a company,” she says.

In the future, Camille hopes to work towards her Canadian residency. She also plans to bring her mother and brother to Terrace and have a family of her own, while always fostering her passion for learning and one day pursuing a Master of Human Resources degree.
