Patti Barnes was a community activist who dedicated 28 years to the College, Library, students, and the Academic Worker's Union (AWU). Over the years, Patti was always known for her help to others. She was kind-hearted and positively influenced and changed the lives of many people. Patti was a friend to many and dedicated herself to community organizations and to improving the world. Patti’s spirit of helping people will carry on with this award.
The award is provided by the Academic Worker's Union and will go to a student nominated by a union member; no application is required. The award consists of two parts: a $1,000 cheque from the AWU, and a $1,000 tuition credit to be used at Coast Mountain College (CMTN) for a student intending to enrol in their second year of studies in an CMTN academic program.
This award is intended to apply to a student engaged in, and committed to, community and/or international work empowering under-represented groups. For example, but not limited to: working in literacy, women’s issues, human rights, student advocacy, labour, First Nations, poverty, and multiculturalism.
