Terrace, BC – Coast Mountain College (CMTN) is excited to launch a brand-new diploma program in Information Technology, commencing September 2025 at the Terrace Campus.

The topics covered include server management (both Linux and Windows), virtualization and cloud computing, cybersecurity, network management, databases, programming, and website design.

“This program meets a key labour need for our region,” says Colin Elliott, Dean of Business, Access Education, and IT Programs. “The demand for IT professionals is constantly growing, both in the Northwest and across the country, and this exciting, hands-on program will give students the skills to excel in the IT world.”

According the 2025 Labour Market Outlook, the Province of BC anticipates that in the next 10 years, 29,496 job openings are expected for the positions of cybersecurity specialists, information systems testing technicians, telecommunications equipment installation and cable television service technicians, web designers, electronic service technicians (household and business equipment), computer network and web technicians, computer and information systems managers, and information systems specialists.

To deliver the program, CMTN has partnered with Vancouver Island University, who has delivered it for more than 30 years and has hundreds of graduates working in industry across the province and beyond. This partnership will ensure that students are fully prepared to support IT needs in our region.

“Coast Mountain College's goal by 2027 is to be the college of choice for experiential, place-based learning,” says Elliott. “This program takes that to heart. Students can expect to be active in doing, building, and creating, as well as being connected with industry in our area to get ready for the workforce.”

This program is offered as a two-year diploma, consisting of two 4-month terms per year, plus a one-month work experience session at the end of the first academic year.
