Learning Technologist - Centre of Learning Transformation (Terrace)

Job description and duties

Coast Mountain College (CMTN), Terrace campus, invites applications for a continuing, full-time Learning Technologist commencing as soon as possible. This position will require a flexible schedule as evening/weekend work will be necessary as well as some travel. Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Support Staff Scale, Level 8.

Duties: The Learning Technologist will work as a member of the Centre of Learning Transformation (COLT) team to provide learning technology support to faculty and staff who work with students. This includes CMTN’s learning management system (Brightspace), video conferencing, and other learning technologies.

  • Providing timely front-line user support to faculty and staff in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment (including troubleshooting or referring issues with immediate requirements)

  • Creating teaching and learning resources (this may include workshops, websites, tutorials, interactive programs, and databases) to be utilized by instructors

  • Facilitating comprehensive reviews and updates of processes for learning technology tools  

  • Keeping up to date with current/emerging trends and challenges in software, curriculum, and teaching strategies

  • Acting as a liaison and positive advocate between the information technology department, instructors, and other key stakeholders, and model the use of learning technology to enhance student learning

  • Review materials/equipment/programs/services and implementation strategies and provide reports as required

  • All other tasks of similar scope and complexity as required

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in educational technology or a related discipline. Training in learning technology approaches that support best practices in assessment, delivery of instruction, and curriculum design. An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.

Required experience, skills, abilities, and attributes include:

  • Minimum 5 years recent related experience, performing the same or similar tasks (preferably in a post-secondary environment)

  • Advanced experience (course and account control, administrator, user settings) using a learning management system, preferably Brightspace, web pages, and HTML basics

  • Experience working with Indigenous communities and learners

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills (written and verbal) to relate technology concepts to non-technical users

  • High attention to detail with the demonstrated ability effectively to manage multiple demands with varying deadlines
