Substitute Instructors - Trades Programs (Terrace)

Job description and duties

Coast Mountain College (CMTN), Terrace campus, invites applications to create a pool of qualified applicants for on-call Trades Substitute Instructor positions to provide on-call relief during the academic year. Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Instructor salary scale.

Duties:  Provide back-up coverage for the regular instructors. Responsibilities include facilitating learning and ensuring student success. This includes course preparation, teaching and guiding students, providing feedback, correction, encouragement, and direction. In addition, the instructor will oversee and ensure shop safety, complete the related administrative, record keeping and monitoring activities as well as other related duties as required. NOTE:  Please indicate in your cover letter which of the following Trades program you are applying to instruct.

  • Automotive Service Technician
  • Carpentry
  • Electrical
  • Hairstylist
  • Heavy Mechanical
  • Professional Cook
  • Welding

Qualifications

A Journeyperson Certificate and Grade 12 or equivalent. Experience should include a minimum of 5 years’ varied field experience as a Journeyperson and 5 years in a supervisory capacity. A Provincial Instructor Diploma or other relevant teaching certification and experience are preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s license
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching with the ability to motivate and mentor learners of all ages
  • Knowledge and enthusiasm for the best practices in equity, diversity, and inclusion in the classroom
  • Ability to function effectively across cultures, particularly with the Indigenous communities is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and accurately in a collaborative team environment
  • Excellent organizational, communication and facilitation skills
  • Intermediate computer skills (word processing, excel, email)
