Gitksanimx Language Instructor (Hazelton)

Job description and duties

Coast Mountain College (CMTN), Hazelton campus, invites applications for an Indigenous Language Instructor as outlined below (subject to minimum enrolment).  The appointment will commence August 22, 2024 and end May 5, 2025. Salary will be in accordance with the CUPE Instructor Scale: (range: $5,775.84 - $9,255.50 per section).

Duties: The College Professors are responsible for contributing to the academic success of students. This includes course preparation, teaching and guiding students, providing feedback, correction, encouragement, and direction in the following face-to-face course:

  • GITK 101: Introduction to Gitksanimx Language Conversation I (1 section)
  • GITK 102: Introduction to Gitksanimx Language Conversation II (1 section)

Qualifications

A minimum of both a Master’s degree and a Bachelor’s degree in First Nations Studies along with proficiency in Gitxsan language (confirmed by Gitxsan language authority). A combination of language certification and/or teaching experience teaching Gitxsan language may be considered.  Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate experience with experiential teaching formats.

  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching with the ability to inspire and mentor learners
  • Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous communities and/or strong ties with Indigenous communities
  • Knowledge and enthusiasm for the best practices in equity, diversity, and inclusion in the classroom
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and facilitation skills
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
